Evansville, Indiana — The City of Evansville, in partnership with the Southern Indiana Mentoring Academy (SIMA), successfully launched its Midnight Basketball initiative at the CK Newsome Community Center, bringing together young people, mentors, families, volunteers, and community leaders for an evening focused on positive engagement and youth development.

Designed to provide a safe and structured environment during evening hours, the program combines sports, mentorship, education, and community-building activities. Participants enjoyed basketball competitions, recreational activities, music, and opportunities to connect with mentors and local leaders.

Mayor Stephanie Terry emphasized the importance of creating positive opportunities for young people throughout the summer, while community organizations highlighted the role mentorship can play in helping youth make informed decisions and build confidence.

As communities seek innovative ways to support young people, Evansville’s Midnight Basketball initiative provides a safe space for growth, connection, and opportunity.

The event reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to youth development, violence prevention, and stronger community relationships.
